Q. Hello! Who are you and what product are you working on currently, and who is your target audience(Age range)?
I'm Alex Nguyen, a 25-year-old software engineer with six years of experience and an independent developer. My product, Feynman AI, helps users create notes, mind maps, quizzes, and flashcards from audio, PDFs, and more. It’s designed to help students and young professionals (ages 18-30) learn better using the Feynman technique.
Q. What is your backstory and how did you come up with your idea? What year did you start?
I started Feynman AI about 4 months ago. The idea came from a friend who struggled with studying abroad. Even with a good IELTS score, he found it hard to follow lectures by native-speaking professors. He had to record them to review later. That’s when I thought of creating a tool that helps international students by turning lecture recordings into notes, quizzes, and flashcards.
Q. Take us through the process of building the first version of your product MVP.
I built the first web version in a month and launched it. Then, I started working on the app. At first, the app only had basic features like recording and generating notes, quizzes, and flashcards. As users requested more features, like creating notes from PDFs and making mind maps, I added them. The feedback has been very positive.
Q. How many employees do you have working on your product? Do you have any co-founders?
No, it’s just me.
Q. How much monthly traffic do you receive?
200k impressions from iOS, 20k impressions from Android, 15k from website visits.
Q. How did you get your first customers for your product and how many free/paid customers do you have currently? (Feel free to list them out).
I got my first paying customer 20 days after launch. Today, I have 30,000 users, with 200 of them being paid customers.
Q. Since you launched your product, What has worked to attract customers?
Adding features users requested, like mind maps and PDF support, has been important. These features made the app more useful and brought in more users.
Q. How is your product performing currently, and what are your plans for the future? Can you share your current metrics and revenue figures?
Feynman AI is growing fast. My revenue is currently over $6,000 MRR (from both the app and web). In the future, I plan to focus more on marketing to grow even faster.
Q. Since the inception of your business, have you gained any insights that have provided you with a competitive advantage and proven beneficial to your operations?
Learning about marketing has been crucial for growth.
Q. What tools have helped you grow your product?
Cursor AI, Astro for ASO, ChatGPT, and Claude have been very helpful.
Q. What advice would you offer to entrepreneurs who are looking to start or have just begun their journey?
Build your MVP quickly and use social media for marketing.

This week's indie tip is about evolving your mindset as a founder. That is, shifting from perfectionism to focus on distribution, execution, and systems. First-time founders often over-engineer, but seasoned founders prioritize sustainable growth through strategic launches and utilizing networks. Start small, ship often, and finally, build relationships for long-term success.
